2024 is the year of the Dragon for those who follow or acknowledge the traditional lunisolar Chinese calendar. FENDI, FRGMT, and Pokémon joined forces to release celebratory accessories for this Chinese New Year. The collaboration is a part of FENDI’s ‘Friend of FENDI’ partnership.
The unique collection contains beautifully designed bags, small leather goods, key lanyards, key charms, brass jewelry, textile accessories, and apparel. Moreover, the collection features digital hat and shirt assets to customize Pokémon Go avatars. Everything in the collection features the evolutionary family of Dratini, Dragonair, and Dragonite. These popular Pokémon are the first dragon Pokémon and make this Dragon Year collection extra special. However, Dragonite and its color palette take the main stage in this collaboration.
One of the three dragon Pokémon or their physical characteristics adorns each article of the collection. The collection also features the Fendi logo, Fendi’s signature FF Jacquard logo, and the FRGMT alongside the Pokémon as proof of the collaboration.
This high-fashion collection contains clothing and accessories for both women and men. As such, the collection is accessible to fans of all genders. The limited collaboration’s release date is on January 4th, 2024. Additionally, prices aren’t currently known.
Fragment Design, stylized as “FRGMT,” is a streetwear brand by designer Hiroshi Fujiwara and solely focuses on collaborations. Fujiwara is known as the “godfather of streetwear,” with designers such as Takashi Murakami and Virgil Abloh previously citing the living legend as an influence.
Fujiwara stated, “When Kim asked me to work on a project together, I had no reason to say no. I very much enjoyed working with Kim again, and this time also with Silvia. It was a true honor to work with the house of FENDI, a traditional brand with outstanding craftsmanship. Grateful for this opportunity,” when asked about the three-partied collaboration.
Pokémon is currently the number one highest-grossing franchise in the world. The monster-battling game franchise grossed 91.1 billion dollars in its 28 years. Moreover, the Pokémon Company turned the game franchise into a lifestyle brand. As such, the franchise consists of clothing, electronics, phone apps, games, movies, shows, and more.
Overall, the collection is an incredible opportunity for fans, brands, and creators alike. It’s exciting to witness pop culture collaborations such as this.
