The 72nd Miss Universe pageant occurred in El Salvador, and the results are in. The ever-so-stunning Miss Nicaragua, Sheynnis Alondra Palacios Cornej, took home the crown and then some.
Visibly shaken, Sheynnis Palacios was in tears when she heard her country called over Thailand’s in the final and winning announcement. Perhaps it was the spur of the moment as Sheynnis beat out 80 of the most beautiful women in the world. Or, maybe it is also that her win represents more than a solitary achievement.
The 23-year-old beauty is the first Miss Nicaraguan to win the Miss Universe pageant. Moreover, the win calls for world recognition of the beauty, strength and charisma of Nicaraguan women. Sheynnis is also the first Miss Nicaragua to win one of the Big Four international beauty pageants. Her well-deserved win is a literal crowning achievement for her and her country. The bombshell beauty made it to the Top 40 of Miss World 2021.
Sheynnis has the ability to use her crown as leverage in her humanitarian efforts. She is an advocate for improving the lives of those with mental health because she suffered from anxiety attacks as a teen. The beauty queen founded Entiende tu Mente (Understand Your Mind), a television segment where she discuses mental health with specialists. Her title win opens up vast opportunities and sponsorships that will allow her to inspire and improve the lives of Nicaraguan women and women around the world.
